An Evening of Live Beatles Music, Personal Stories and Rare Photos
starring ANGIE & RUTH McCARTNEY
with special guests THE MOP TOPS
What They Saw
The Magical History Tour turned “Penny Lane” into memory lane, making for a perfect October afternoon at Encanterra Country Club.
A few lucky winners and their guests kicked off the day with an intimate afternoon tea hosted by Angie and Ruth McCartney who shared entertaining conversation and stories about The Beatles while noshing on scones and finger sandwiches and sipping on a selection of teas. Ruth demonstrated the proper way to cut an English scone and Angie discussed her new book, My Long and Winding Road.
Festival-goers enjoyed wine and seasonal craft beers like Blue Moon’s Harvest Pumpkin in the Model Home Gallery prior to the show.
The stage was set up overlooking the 18th green, which provided the perfect backdrop for an evening concert. When the sun began to retire for the day, the Superstition Mountains glowed orange. Ruth opened the show, commenting on the beauty of Encanterra Country Club by saying, “I feel like I was dropped into a postcard.”
The Magical History Tour combined live musical performances by the MopTops, a McCartney-approved Beatles tribute band, with personal stories from Angie and Ruth, and multimedia videos featuring family pictures, snapshots from the 60s, and an overall history of the Beatles incredible years from 1963 to 1969.
The MopTops performed Beatles favorites like “Hey Jude,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” The band donned period perfect Beatles attire for each of their four sets.
One of the show highlights involved listening to Angie and Ruth’s responses to questions submitted by fan before the show. In particular, they shared stories about the lengths to which Paul McCartney’s fans would go in order to catch a glimpse of him or get an autograph. They also shared insights and truths about some of the Beatles’ inspirations for songs.
It was a day filled with music, memories and magic.
Make sure to keep your eye on The Good Life Festival website for the spring concert line-up, which we’ll be announcing soon!
About The Show
Angie and daughter Ruth McCartney have been Beatle insiders from 1964 onwards, when Angie married Sir Paul’s father, Jim, in November of that year.
Their walk down the long and winding road of the biggest music phenomena that the world has ever seen, is quite simply the only private glimpse of the Fab Four on tour today.
The Magical History Tour combines the intimate feeling of “An Evening With…”, together with live musical performances by The Mop Tops, a McCartney-approved Beatle tribute band, personal stories from Angie and Ruth, and multimedia video vignettes of their family pictures, the Swinging 60′s, the Zeitgeist of fashion, and the history of these 6 incredible years from ’63 to ’69.
